Tricks & Tips

  • When working in DOpus Name Mode, hold down left mouse button over a name field (or date, attribute or comment field) in order to edit it.
  • Press the HELP (or PageDown) key whenever you need help with DOpus windows.
  • Middle mouse click brings the window under the mouse pointer to the front.
  • Holding down the right mouse button over a file brings the menu up (depends on filetype).
  • To change the background picture, press the right mouse button over a picture file and select "Set as background". Or go to DirOpus5 settings by pressing the right-mouse button -> Settings -> Environment.
  • Holding the LeftALT button will lock the mouse in the horizontal or vertical direction (depends on last mouse move).
  • You can make your AmiKit password protected. Run AmiKit:Prefs/ShowAmiga96 and configure the Login section. Just don't forget your password ;-)
  • If you want to enable the support for more than one CD/DVD drive, simply move the CD1 (CD2, CD3, CD4) file from AmiKit:Storage/DosDrivers/ to AmiKit:Devs/DosDrivers/. For temporary activation of these drives simply click the boingball located on the taskbar -> Tools -> System -> DOS Drivers -> and choose the drive you want to activate.
  • Configure hotkeys to run your favourites applications (right click -> Settings -> Hotkeys…). For example, press „LeftAmiga+s“ to start the shell, „LeftAmiga+c“ to start the calculator or „Esc“ to close the windows.

  • You can snapshot the position of those windows that do not offer such a possibility by themselves. Simply press LeftShift+LeftControl+[ to snapshot the position of active window. Edit the settings in Snapper config by launching Exchange -> Snapper. Note: You have to enable Snapper first. Move it from AmiKit:WBStartup/Disabled folder to AmiKit:WBStartup. However snapper isn't 100% reliable, read its manual please.

  • Notice the blue magnifier glass next to the files when browsing taskbar filesystem icons (eg. Ram, AmiKit, Downloads). It indicates that the type of file has been recognized and you can do additional actions with this file…
  • For those who do not like the taskbars in Amiga at all, simply move „AmiStart“ from AmiKit:WBStartup to AmiKit:WBStartup/Disabled… Easy!
  • Fed up with AmiKit startup logo? Use WBStartup+Prefs program (click the boingball located at taskbar -> Tools -> System -> WBStartup+Prefs) and untick the „AmiKit Logo“.
  • The blue rotating arrow is run on first start of AmiKit only. If you want to have it permanetly, use WBStartup+Prefs program (click the boingball located at taskbar -> Tools -> System -> WBStartup+Prefs) and tick the „BoingBall“ entry. To change the position of the arrow, edit AmiKit:Prefs/Presets/AmiKit/BoingBall/boingball_Arrow.config file.
  • Adjust PC keyboard to your Amiga needs by AmiKit:Utilities/Expansion/MMKeyboard/MMKeyboard program. Note: You have to enable MMKeyboard first. Move it from AmiKit:WBStartup/Disabled folder to AmiKit:WBStartup.
  • If you have slow CPU (below 1.5 GHz) set the refresh rate to "Every second Frame" or even more in WinUAE display settings to speed things up. This speeds up the boot precess of AmiKit as well.
